DIRECTORATE OF DIPLOMA, CERTIFICATES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES (DDCSDP)
The Directorate of Diploma, Certificates and Skills Development Programmes (DDCSDP) is a key academic and training unit at SJUIT responsible for the coordination, development, quality assurance, and administration of diploma and certificate-level academic programmes, as well as short-term professional and skills development courses.
This Directorate is instrumental in fulfilling SJUIT’s commitment to capacity building and employable education, particularly for youth and working professionals seeking practical, industry-relevant skills and qualifications.
The mandate of the DDCSDP is to:
1) Develop and manage certificate, diploma, and short-term skills-based programmes.
2) Provide access to practical and employable education, especially for school leavers, mid-career professionals, and lifelong learners.
3) Ensure academic quality, relevance, and compliance with national and sectoral standards.
4) Promote community outreach and workforce development through targeted training programmes.
The Directorate performs a wide range of academic and administrative responsibilities, including:
Programme Development and Review
1) Design and periodically review certificate, diploma, and short-course curricula to ensure responsiveness to labor market demands.
2) Ensure that all programmes comply with the regulatory requirements of NACTVET (National Council for Technical and Vocational
Education and Training) and relevant professional bodies.
Skills Development and Lifelong Learning
1) Develop and offer short courses, workshops, and training programmes in areas such as ICT, entrepreneurship, health and safety, project management, and soft skills.
2) Partner with industries and government to deliver customized training for workforce enhancement.
Monitoring and Evaluation
1) Conduct periodic evaluations of programme effectiveness, teaching quality, and student satisfaction.
2) Use feedback to inform continuous improvement and innovation in curriculum and delivery methods.
Industry Linkages and Practical Training
1) Facilitate industrial attachments, fieldwork, and practical training components that prepare students for direct entry into the workforce.
2) Collaborate with employers to ensure programme content reflects industry standards and emerging trends.
Certification and Graduation
1) Coordinate examination processes, student assessments, and issuance of academic awards for all non-degree programmes.
2) Ensure that graduates are certified in a timely and credible manner.
Access and Inclusivity
1) Promote flexible learning pathways through part-time, weekend, and online/blended learning options to reach diverse learner groups.
The Directorate of Diploma, Certificates and Skills Development Programmes supports national efforts to increase access to technical and vocational education and to bridge the skills gap in key sectors of the economy. Through this unit, SJUIT contributes to poverty reduction, youth employment, and socio-economic transformation in Tanzania and beyond.
